3 licenses for substandard goods canceled: BSTI in high court

BSTI said in a report issued to the High Court on Tuesday (August 27th). The company also attached a warning alert to the media.

Licensed product is Aki's Food & Beverage Ghee 'Fresh Fresh', Shakti Edible Pvt. Lee. Its 'Shakti Soybean Oil', AK Khan Food and Beverage's 'Safe' Soybean Oil, Iodized Salt 'Camel' from Bismillah Salt Factory, 'Nazrul', JK Food Proda, by Janata Salt Mill. Its 'Medina' Lacha Semai, Modern Cosmetics and Herbal Industries Ltd. Its' Modern 'Skin Cream', GM Chemical Works' GM 'Skin Cream, New Chattala (Pvt) Ltd. Its 'Arabian Special' Ghee, Raven Food Company Limited's 'Raven' Lacha Semai and Khazanna Mithai Lee. Its 'rent' is Lacha Semai, Ghee and Chanachur.

According to the notice, instructions have been issued to the concerned manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers and retailers to refrain from selling, distributing, storing and promoting commercial advertisements without obtaining a fresh license. Simultaneously, a request was made to withdraw these products from the market and the consumer general was requested to refrain from purchasing the products.

BSTI recently tested after collecting 4 food samples. Out of these, 5 product test results were released. 5 out of 6 products reported to be non-standard by the regulator. The court ordered the BSTI to submit the report of the results of the remaining five products by the date. Accordingly, BSTI publishes the results of the product quality test. Of these, 22 products were found to be low quality.

On May 5, Supreme Court lawyer Shihab Uddin Khan filed the petition on behalf of Palash Mahmud, executive director of Consumer Rights Consortium (CCS).
